The O2 Arena will host the play-offs of the 2024 Premier League Darts tournament tonight as a hard-fought, 16-week campaign across the continent reaches its climax in London.
Luke Klein crowned the regular season table and goes into the final as the top seed, where he will face a semi-final duel with Michael Smith. World Champion Luke Humphrieswho came second, then takes over Michael van Gerwen.
The semi-finals will be a best of 19 legs tournament before a best of 21 legs match in the winner-takes-all final. Interestingly, the final round of the regular season in Sheffield just a week ago offered a glimpse of who might win each encounter when Smith Littler and Humphries beat Van Gerwen in that night’s semi-final. Peter Wright, Gerwyn Price and Rob Cross have all been well off the pace in securing a play-off place, although Cross has enjoyed a resurgence in form in recent weeks.
Nathan Aspinall’s defeat to Michael Smith in the quarter-finals in Sheffield cost him a chance of reaching the final night and “Bully Boy” finished fourth with 25 points and two wins.
Michael van Gerwen secured four evening wins, but his penchant for early retirements meant he only finished third.
It was a decider between Luke Littler and Luke Humphries, who each won four nights, but Littler’s overall consistency ensured he moved away from the top with 40 points to 36.
