La Liga President arrives in Baghdad to open La Liga office in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – La Liga President Javier Tebas arrived in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Monday to inaugurate the La Liga headquarters in Iraq.

The President of the Iraqi Football Association (IFA), Adnan Darjal, received Tebas and his delegation in Baghdad.

Tebas will also attend the Baghdad Derby between Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya and Al-Zawraa, which will take place at 20:00 at the Al-Madina International Stadium in Baghdad.

Darjal confirmed that the La Liga President’s visit reflects the strength of the partnership with the IFA.

“Tebas’ arrival to open the La Liga headquarters in Baghdad is a remarkable step that will improve Iraqi football in many ways,” said Darjal.

The IFA President pointed out that football officials in Iraq are making efforts to give the derby between Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya and Al-Zawraa a distinctive look that could serve as a model for next season’s competitions.

La Liga and the IFA began their collaboration in mid-2023 as part of a three-year effort that marks a turning point for the growth of football in the Gulf region.

This partnership will help Iraqi football develop in all directions, applying the long-term model for which La Liga is known worldwide.
