Fenerbahce says the new coach Jose Mourinho is expected to earn an annual salary of 10.5 million euros (11.4 million dollars) after signing a two-year contract.
Fenerbahce announced the figures in a statement to the stock exchange on Wednesday, three days after the traditional Turkish club introduced Mourinho to thousands of fans at its stadium.
The amount of any bonuses was not mentioned in Mourinho’s contract.
Mourinho was tasked with winning the Turkish league, something Fenerbahce had not done since 2014. The team was beaten by a bitter rival in the battle for the title. Galatasaray last month. Fenerbahce will also compete in the first qualifying rounds of the Champions League in July.
Mourinho has not worked outside the top five European leagues since 2004, when he took over Porto after winning the Champions League and joined Chelseawhich experienced a boom under the then owner Roman Abramovich.
Since then he has also trained Inter Milan, real Madrid, Manchester United And Tottenham in a career full of trophies and controversies off the field.
Meanwhile, another Istanbul-based club, Besiktasannounced on Wednesday that Giovanni van Bronckhorst has agreed to join the team as head coach.
The Dutch coach has agreed to a two-year contract with the option to extend for a further season, Besiktas said in a statement published on its website.
Van Bronchorst last trained Rangersand led the Scottish team to the Europa League final in the 2021–22 season.
