At the start of the 2023/24 season, Filip Jorgensen was promoted from Villarreal B to the first team, where he was used as first-choice goalkeeper, ahead of experienced goalkeeper Pepe Reina. In his first season in top-flight football, he flourished and was one of the most outstanding goalkeepers in La Liga.
Despite being just 22 years old, Jorgensen seemed unfazed by the pressure of La Liga and was one of Villarreal’s better players throughout the season. Unfortunately, his performances for the Yellow Submarine did not go unnoticed.
Accordingly Relief, Chelsea And Wolves have inquired about Jorgensen’s availability, while Newcastle United have also expressed their interest – after Giorgi Mamardashvili of Valencia, he is the second goalkeeper from La Liga that the Magpies have their eye on.
Villarreal are in no rush to sell Jorgensen, who has a €40 million release clause, but the report says Newcastle believe they can do a deal for half that amount, which would be an absolute bargain for one of Europe’s best young goalkeepers. The situation will certainly be kept under review.
