Chelsea newcomer reportedly set to join La Liga team on loan after completing his transfer

Marc Guiu will reportedly join Sevilla on loan once his permanent move from Barcelona to Chelsea is completed. The Spanish starlet is on his way to Stamford Bridge but will return to his homeland for a loan spell at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

SPORT reports that Sevilla are in pole position to sign the 18-year-old frontman after he officially joined the Blues, with the Premier League giants activating the €6 million release clause in his contract with Barca.

Garcia Pimenta has just been appointed The Nervion Senses new manager and knows Guiu well. The Spanish tactician was coach of the La Masia academy while the centre-forward was climbing the career ladder.

Sevilla were interested in Guiu before Chelsea activated the release clause and signed the Spain U19 international. He began to make an impact in the Catalans’ senior team last season, scoring twice in seven appearances and taking just 33 seconds to score on his debut in a 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao (22 November).

Guiu is considered an exciting talent and a long-term signing who could be the Blues’ No.9 in the coming years, and is currently unlikely to displace Nicolas Jackson as the club’s starting striker.

The 6’1″ striker is Chelsea’s third summer signing after Kendry Paez and Estevao, with the trio’s signings kicking off a busy transfer window.

Chelsea are also reportedly considering sending Marc Guiu to Strasbourg on loan

Chelsea are likely to loan Guiu out to ensure he gets regular playing time and further his development. The above source claims the young Spaniard has received offers from Barca but prefers the Blues due to a role in pre-season and the chance of first-team opportunities.

It is also claimed that Sevilla are not the only European club looking to loan Guiu out. Ligue 1 side Strasbourg are also being considered as they are owned by the West Londoners’ owners. Several of their previous signings have moved to the Stade de la Meinau on loan.

Strasbourg finished 13th in Ligue 1 last season and is still a club undergoing restructuring following its takeover by BlueCo in June 2023. Chelsea’s Andrey Santos spent last season on loan at the French side.

Guiu could spend a season at Sevilla or Strasbourg before returning to Stamford Bridge and fighting for a place in the starting XI. The Blues have a long tradition of Spanish strikers and have boasted the likes of Fernando Torres, Diogo Costa and Alvaro Morata in the past.
