Chelsea confirms transfer of 31-year-old attacker to Turkish top club Galatasaray

Chelsea have confirmed the permanent transfer of Hakim Ziyech to Turkish Süper Lig champions Galatasaray, ending his four-year spell in west London.

Chelsea have confirmed the transfer of Hakim Ziyech to the Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray in the event of a permanent transfer.

The 31-year-old attacker was on loan to Gala last season, and the confirmation of his move now ends his four-year association with the West Londoners.

Ziyech joined the Blues from Ajax for a £34 million transfer fee in 2020, but struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular at Stamford Bridge.

Nevertheless, the Moroccan international won the Champions League with Chelsea in his first season in England, scoring two goals in ten games. However, he was on the bench in the final against Manchester City and did not play.

He was loaned to Galatasaray after the former boss of the Blues Mauricio Pochettino stated that it was not part of his future plans.

Chelsea confirms free transfer of Hakim Ziyech to Galatasaray

Ziyech enjoyed a successful 2023–24 season in Turkey, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 18 Süper Lig appearances as Gala beat Fenerbahce to win its 21st top-flight title.

The Moroccan has now finally completed his move to Rams Park and signed a one-year contract with the Turkish champions with the option to extend for a further 12 months.

“Hakim Ziyech has completed a permanent transfer to Galatasaray. We thank Hakim for his efforts during his time at Chelsea and wish him all the best as he begins the next chapter of his career,” Chelsea announced on their official website.

Ziyech had previously been linked with a loan move to Paris Saint-Germain in January 2023, but the deal fell through on deadline day despite his trip to the French capital.

A statement from Galatasaray after the deal was confirmed said: “The final transfer of professional footballer Hakim Ziyech was made free of charge as the conditions of the free purchase option in the temporary transfer agreement were met.”

“The football player will receive a seasonal salary of EUR 2,850,000 net for the 2024-2025 season. In addition, according to the agreement, if the conditional extension option is exercised, the football player will be paid a seasonal salary of EUR 2,850,000 net for the 2025-2026 season.”

Is Ziyech the first of many Chelsea departures this summer?

Ziyech made a total of 107 appearances for Chelsea during his time at Stamford Bridge, scoring 14 goals and providing 13 assists.

However, the Moroccan international is not the only player who will be leaving West London this summer.

Chelsea also confirmed the sale of Ian Maatsen to Premier League rivals Aston Villa for a reported transfer fee of £38 million.

In addition, the Blues are probably under pressure to sell a few more players in order not to violate the profit and sustainability rules.

According to recent reports, the club is open to offers for graduates of the academy Trevor Chalobah, Conor Gallagher And Armando Broja in the current transfer window.
