Newcastle have accepted an offer from Brighton of around £33 million for Yankuba Minteh and that could be enough to keep stars like Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon at the club.

The Magpies are fighting to avoid a Premier League points deduction for failing to comply with profit and sustainability rules and need to sell before the accounting period deadline on Sunday evening.

19-year-old Minteh now has to undergo a medical examination at the South Coast Club.

Brighton came back with an improved offer on Saturday night and are now expected to complete a deal that alleviates Newcastle’s PSR concerns.

They have spoken to Liverpool about a deal for Gordon and Chelsea have enquired about Isak, Mail Sport exclusively revealed.

Minteh had previously refused to join Lyon despite a £40 million agreement with Newcastle

The club management and head coach Eddie Howe did not want to lose either player, but it was agreed that the club had to sell the player to avoid a likely 10-point deduction.

Minteh has also been offered to Nottingham Forest and said last week he did not want to join Lyon after a £40m deal was agreed. There was also an offer from Everton..

However, Everton would only have been available if Dominic Calvert-Lewin had gone the other way.

Brighton remained in the race and Minteh was keen to join them, despite the club being reluctant to pay Newcastle’s £35 million asking price.

The club also considered offering one of its players as part of the deal, but it is clear that the offer did not cover the amount Newcastle required.

As Mail Sport first revealed on Saturday, Elliot Anderson was also the subject of negotiations with Forest.

He joined Newcastle last year for £6 million from Danish club OB and was immediately loaned out.

The Gambian international gained Champions League experience and ended the season by winning the Dutch Cup, but was sent off.

Minteh told Dutch football magazine Voetbal International in April: “Ultimately, the Premier League is my goal. Newcastle United is the club that has a lot of faith in me. I have no idea what the future holds.”
