A series of quests “about Petka and Vasilivanovich” is such a special entertainment especially for Russia. In no other country will they understand what’s funny about the adventures of Vasily Ivanovich Chapaev’s double and his adjutant and drinking companion Petka. Well, this kind of humor is special, secret. But we like it, they buy the game, and therefore"Petka" has gone through as many as 8 iterations, currently sporting the number "9". Very good, agree. Even the best adventures from LucasArts couldn’t boast of such a number of episodes. But you shouldn’t consider quantity as a sign of quality, especially in this case. However, the principle “the more, the worse” is not always true.
Wet business, number nine
The first ten minutes of the game will be devoted exclusively to water. Our brave company – Vasily Ivanovich, Petka and Anka the Machine Gunner – is sailing from somewhere on a suspicious yellow boat. On the way, they refuel with diesel fuel from unknown sources, and first aid from the nearest apiary. And suddenly – what a surprise! – the radio turns on, and the homeland, represented by the command, calls for a feat in the name of itself, since there is no one else. But the heroes are not destined to answer the call and save Russia once again. An anomalous zone, honestly marked with a buoy with a sign, will interfere. But what kind of hero is looking at some signs there??
An old fairy tale in a new way, and that’s all. Muddy green water, mutant fish, a mysterious floating egg and a Rastafari robot guide – this is Moscow in 2150. Very reliably. Advertising for “real estate on the Moon with a view of the Earth” and a pneumatic system included. Of course, Petka and HIV immediately get into trouble, so at first get ready to contemplate only the three-dimensional and fairly well drawn Anka. The girl, frankly speaking, is not an acquired taste, but her calmness and determination inspire respect. And once we save the unfortunate warrior, we will be able to rejoice at both Chapai’s characteristic speech patterns and the antics of the “red adjutant”. And in the end, of course, we will once again save Russia, this time from nuclear waste and environmental disaster. Relevant.
True, there’s nothing much to be happy about. After 8 parts, the jokes repeated again look forced, and the actors’ lines sound like overacting. They were clearly not too interested in the plot and the experiences of the characters. You can hear it in the deliberately emotional tone with which numerous phrases are read. It’s no less offensive that nothing new was invented in the field of gameplay and plot. We walk, explore interactive objects, communicate. Fresh. Anyone who says that this is the essence of any quest, we send to Quest For Glory, Full Throttle and Broken Sword. Here we have not a low-budget craft that could be released on the brakes, relying on the glory of the previous parts. Which means they were just lazy. The most unpleasant problems can be considered at the level of the senior group of kindergarten, which are deliberately complicated by running around. That’s right, without it the whole game would have been completed in half an hour.
Named Mauser, improved https://atlanticcity-casino.co.uk/games/ design
If you compare appearance without making any discounts on “Russianness”Petki 9" and the first episodes – they will undoubtedly benefit. Hand-drawn 2D graphics have always been preferable for this kind of games, and the transition to 3D should be accompanied by a huge leap in the quality of this very “three-de”. Because a quest or adventure game is, first of all, a plot and interaction with the world, and when you are constantly distracted by a bad camera angle or a “braking” mouse, you don’t interact much. Yes, and three-dimensional characters still suffer from a certain “Pinocchio” quality that is incompatible with the characteristic humor. They were a caricature in the flat version, but here they became a caricature in a square.
Yes, if we consider the graphics engine separately, it can work quite well. But definitely no one was involved in optimization, and the number of polygons and the lack of even the necessary shaders suggest that they could not. Anka’s "plastic" hair and "water" are examples of this. The camera was also not mentioned in vain, here it changes the angle a hundred times inside each location, the change occurs very abruptly, and the angles themselves are not always successful and convenient. This looks especially ridiculous in scripted scenes, when an invisible operator jumps like a mad rabbit, trying to keep up with the characters running back and forth.
By the way, you can tell us more about running around. Now each location is a territory of considerable size, where you can walk for quite a long time. And the architecture here now resembles more of a 3D shooter than a quest. Transitions, stairs, nooks and crannies… Only the controls are still mousey.
Fish egg, side view
The fish here lay eggs quite reasonably – they are mutants after all. But the length of scripted and non-scripted scenes, both at the beginning of the game and later in the plot, does not differ in such validity. The dynamics of the gameplay here are almost zero, as well as the dynamics of the plot development in the videos. Pianos in the bushes are also quite common, but I don’t even want to find fault with them. Let them play for themselves, and we will pretend that everything is fine. But when dialogues for some unknown reason are lengthened three times with meaningless exchanges of remarks, this suggests. Let’s say about the creative impotence of screenwriters. Otherwise, why would? And a slight pause after each gag – laugh, gentlemen, we’ll wait – doesn’t do them any credit either. Moreover, it’s not funny.
Character observations and comments? Oh, that’s a separate topic for discussion. The characters systematically produce canvases of text about nothing, just as sluggish and absolutely not funny as in the dialogues. Part – with pretensions to a joke (“Oh, egg exchanger. Maybe call Petka and Vasilyvanych – there will be more and more money…"), some – just into emptiness. You listen for the first fifteen minutes, then it starts to irritate.
And the worst thing in this case is not that the script copies numerous finds from films, books and games. This could be attributed to the genre. But self-copying here already looks like bad form, and it is present in unreasonably large quantities. And it’s hardly even disguised.
Still, quantity won in this case. The game leaves behind only the feeling of “it was better before” and nothing more. There are no moments worthy of replaying or at least retelling to friends. In general, there are no “Easter eggs” either. Local humor is too straightforward, the scriptwriters (is the plural applicable here??) diligently demonstrate every joke, sucking it until they lose their pulse. Is it really a great and terrible crisis that has had such an impact, causing a shortage of ideas??
Pros: sane graphics; no technical problems (with patch 1.1).
Cons: plot; humor; gameplay; character appearance.
