Pillars of Eternity: The White March – Part 2: Review

The writers bring to their logical conclusion two themes that run like a red thread throughout the story Pillars of Eternity, – Godlessness and memory. After all, throughout the game our hero (or heroine) tries to remember who he is, and lets it pass through himself, experiencing other people’s memories. Therefore, for him what is happening in The White March – Part 2 – not just another story about saving the world, but something more.

In conversations with the same Ondra, serious topics are raised. Should we forget the past?? Is it possible, by destroying memories, forgetting about something, to get rid of pain, feelings of guilt or responsibility?? Or is it better to save all this so as not to repeat your own or other people’s mistakes?? But in some situations, a compromise will not work: what would you do – drown dozens of people or release them into the wild, receiving very powerful enemies in return? And in the end you have to make several important decisions on which the lives of some companions depend.

There are a minimum of side quests this time – the authors clearly did not want to smear the story, focusing (and focusing us) on the main thing. But even in half of the optional tasks you have to make a difficult choice – get into a fight or negotiate, let go or kill..

In addition, we have to defend the rights to the Kaed Nua fortress, which you have cherished, cherished and rebuilt for so long. In the process, you will have to enlist the support of your allies, develop your army and make decisions that will affect the course of the grandiose battle.

Game on a new level

Besides the new story The White March – Part 2 makes several important changes to the gameplay itself. Firstly, almost all classes received new abilities – druids, for example, can now lift enemies into the air with the help of a tornado, “ciphers” learned to use ghostly blades, and all kinds of sorcerers were given the “Spell Master” ability, which simplifies the use of low-level “spells”. Additionally, Athletics and Survival have become more useful.

Secondly, the authors have improved the combat interface – it has become more convenient and informative, a “hot key” has appeared for a proprietary class skill. Finally, during a halt now, just like in Darkest Dungeon, you can choose the bonuses that the character will receive after resting (reduced damage, improved healing, and so on). And, of course, the maximum level has increased – from fourteen to sixteen. Thanks to this, wizards, druids and priests can now cast the most powerful spells.

Despite this, to survive in The White March – Part 2 difficult: there are many rivals here, battles with whom (if the matter cannot be settled peacefully) can drag on for a long time. For those who prefer not to fight anymore, but to follow the story, a super-easy difficulty level has appeared, which is called “Plot Only”.

Evaluating both parts The White March, it must be admitted that Obsidian it turned out to be the perfect DLC – there is a new story that resonates very well with the main plot, and many important changes in the gameplay that make the game deeper, more complex and at the same time more comfortable. Let’s hope that’s the story Pillars of Eternity won’t end and she’ll get a sequel.
